Sailing to Cape Town | 7th March 2010

Written by Kevin Fouche
mahoneyYacht Flamingo left the Knysna heads on Saturday afternoon 6 pm on route to Cape Town. Skipper Kevin Fouche with owners Tim and Suzan Mahoney and friend Jeff "the Crew" onboard left in light wind conditions & lots of good food. We motor-sailed the whole night on very flat sea's and plenty of fog till Sunday morning 10 am. We set the spinnaker at this time with a estimated 15 knot wind ( our electronics had gone on the blink so I had no read out's ) The wind picked up around Augulas to approx 25 knots giving us a average speed of 12 to 14 knots on the hand held GPS. We had a few 16's now and then! (Very fast and stable boat)

We arrived at the V & A, Cape Town at 6 am Monday morning, 36 hours, not bad considering we only had real wind for approximately 8 hours.

I am very impressed with the 480's boat handling and performance as well as with the bridge deck clearance! (Wish I could buy one myself!)
